What is ECU Tuning?
ECU Tuning or Remapping is the process of overwriting the software in your vehicles Electronic Control Unit (ECU) or Transmission Control Unit (TCU) with custom modified software to bring instant benefits.
What are those benefits?
OEM software is typically common to many models and is rarely optimised for either performance or economy. By utilising custom software, bespoke tweaks can be made according to customer preference, focused on performance, economy or a blend of both. Can a remap reduce my engine life?
Not when you use a VIEZU Approved Dealer such as TayTec Tuning. Sadly some vehicles can be over tuned, 'stressing' the engine, transmission, cooling systems, brakes etc, and reducing the life span and reliability of the vehicle. This is why it's so important to choose the best. Choose TayTec - the research and development carried out by VIEZU ensures all our tuning is of the very highest standard possible. We take great care to ensure that all of our modifications have no detrimental effect on your vehicle. In a lot of cases our economy tune actually helps to extend the life of components, such as the clutch and gearbox, by making power delivery far less aggressive and smoothing the overall driving experience. Any professional remap must start with a full diagnostic check to ensure there are no underlying faults and this is all included in the TayTec service.
How are TayTec remaps optimised for my vehicle?
Many re-mappers and suppliers of tuning boxes use cheap off the shelf software and while sometimes more power can be seen, it is still a generic file. This also often comes at the expense of reliability as the software is not professionally developed and safe engine parameters can be exceeded. At TayTec we read your vehicles software first and from this, a custom tuned file can be created. We work exclusively with VIEZU, the leading name in remap file writing, with software which has been developed through years of dyno and emission testing. I've had my car tuned elsewhere and the results were poor, can you help?
There are many "tuners" operating with cheap cloned equipment which is not officially licensed or supported in any way! The result is very often poor performance, fault codes, the vehicle going into limp mode and beyond that, the risk of causing irrecoverable damage to components during the process itself. Speak to us, we only ever use officially licensed and latest generation equipment from Alientech so we can read your current tuned file and suggest where changes could be made, install our software or revert the vehicle back to original spec.
I run a fleet of commercial vehicles, can you help us save money?
Absolutely! Not only can we supply VIEZU's award winning Blue Optimize economy tuning to save you up to 20% on fuel bills, but we can also change or add a speed limit. If an employee continually drives uneconomically or their driving results in speeding tickets, we can safely reduce power or activate a speed limiter on a particular vehicle.
What about my vehicles warranty?
Like many modifications (fitting a towbar, upgrading the sound system) a remap does not automatically invalidate a warranty. Although, should a claim be submitted, the manufacturer reserves the right to investigate whether a modification was the sole cause of a failure and on that basis the claim could be rejected. Therefore, for your total peace of mind, all TayTec work is insured and guaranteed. If our tuning should ever cause a failure, you are covered. Only VIEZU approved dealers have this depth of cover and we are happy to show you and talk through the VIEZU tuning insurance policy. We say this with confidence because of the rigorous testing regime all our ECU remapping and vehicle tuning files go through.
If my vehicle manufacturer carries out a software update, then what?
Sometimes manufacturers update ECU software as part of a recall or during the service process. This would revert the software to standard, but should you lose your tuning files due to dealer action or parts failure, we are happy to re-install the map on to your vehicle free of charge for as long as you own it.
Should I notify my insurance company?
Any modification to your vehicle from standard requires you to notify your insurer. However, the good news is many insurance companies do not penalise you for upgrades of this nature, particularly if you're tuning for increased fuel economy. If in doubt, check with your insurance provider.
What happens if I sell my vehicle?
If you wish to remove a remap to sell your car, unlike many of our competitors, we can reinstall your original software, free of charge.
What if I don't like the results?
Again, unlike other tuners, in the unlikely event of you not being happy with the results, we offer to make changes to the map for 30 days free of charge. An example would be where a customer decides they would like more power at the expense of a little economy - No problem!
